South West LHIN Celebrates Quality and Innovation at Quality Symposium

More than 400 health service providers, administrators and governors joined us in Stratford on May 31st for the second annual South West LHIN Quality Symposium. The theme of this year’s event was “Quality and innovation: Putting people at the centre of their care.”

Local Health Care Projects Recognized with Quality Award

At our first annual Quality Symposium in 2011, it was announced we would be creating an awards program to recognize the good work of our health services providers to improve quality of care for our residents. Fast forward one year, and three organizations have now been acknowledged with our first ever Quality Awards.

Dr Lynne Maher: Putting Patients at the Centre of Their Care

Behavioural Supports Ontario (BSO) in the South West LHIN

In 2012, the Ministry of Health and Long-term Care launched the Behavioural Supports Ontario (BSO) initiative, which provided $40 million provincially of which $3 million was allocated to the South West LHIN. BSO funding, dedicated to hiring nurses, registered practical nurses and personal support workers in long-term care homes.

Dr. Danny Sands: “Whose Quality Is It, Anyway? Why Tech-enabled Patient Engagement Will Be Healthcare’s Salvation”

In Dr. Sands view, physicians should be comfortable in a new world of “information symmetry” where patients have access to many of the resources that doctors do and encourage their patients to play an active role in their care.

Designing a Quality Lifespan: The Challenge of Our Lives

Design is the ultimate prosthetic and designers the veritable enablers. Beyond the confines of the aesthetic, designers have the capacity to fashion the quality of life itself.
